Muslim Minds is an iOS app designed to foster a deeper spiritual connection with Islam through features like prayer times, Quran reading, and supplications. Developed over six weeks, this project combines functionality with a purpose-driven approach.
Timeline
From explorations to final designs in 6 weeks during my Mobile App Development course.
Background
As my first independent project, I aimed to create something impactful rather than a standard app. My goal with Muslim Minds was to build a meaningful tool that helps users engage with their spirituality and connect more deeply with their faith.
This category details the step-by-step approach taken during the project, including research, planning, design, development, testing, and optimization phases.
Research & Planning
From the start, I had a clear vision of what I wanted Muslim Minds to be: a unique app that could support and strengthen people’s faith. I took inspiration from existing apps but aimed to create something more personal and meaningful. This planning phase helped me shape the features that would make this app special.
Design & Prototyping
During the UI/UX module at the Syntax Institute, I translated my ideas into visuals using Figma. I enjoyed the creative process of moving from Low- to High-Fidelity frames, crafting each screen to reflect the app’s purpose. Creating a clickable prototype was exciting, as it allowed me to see my concept come to life and fine-tune the user experience.
Development & Implementation
Applying my programming knowledge in a real project was both challenging and rewarding. With the foundation I built in Modules 2 and 3, I began coding Muslim Minds, integrating each feature step by step. Watching my initial ideas turn into functional elements felt incredibly fulfilling.
Testing & Optimization
Near the end of Module 3, I launched a beta version on TestFlight, inviting users to experience the app and provide feedback. Seeing others interact with what I built was invaluable, and I enjoyed refining the app based on their input, fixing bugs, and optimizing the overall experience to make it as smooth and helpful as possible.
Muslim Minds was designed to be a comprehensive spiritual companion, offering tools to support users in their daily faith practices. Here are three core features of the app:
Prayer Times & Compass
Muslim Minds provides accurate prayer times using an API, along with notifications to remind users when it’s time to pray. Additionally, the app includes a Qibla compass, helping users easily locate the direction of Mecca, no matter where they are.
Quran Reading & Listening
Users can choose to read or listen to the Quran within the app. This feature includes a user-friendly Quran interface and the ability to set bookmarks, allowing users to navigate Surahs and Ayahs effortlessly, whether for deep study or casual listening.
Supplications
The app offers a curated collection of supplications organized into categories, making it easy for users to find the right Dua for every occasion. This feature supports users in enhancing their spiritual practice through daily supplications.
